She homeschools her youngest child, and has authored several children's books that are based on or inspired by actual field research.  She has developed Read-2-Me Buddy Bags, designed to promote early literacy.  Shawna has visited child care programs and children's hospitals in Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Iowa to read her published books to further contribute to early literacy.  She lives in Eastern Iowa with her husband and their youngest of five children.
